Formatting vs. minifying
Formatting adds indentation and line breaks for review and debugging. Minifying removes unnecessary whitespace for transport or compact storage while preserving the same JSON data.
Why strict JSON rejects single quotes
JSON follows RFC 8259: property names and string values use double quotes. Trailing commas, comments, unquoted keys, and single-quoted strings are not valid JSON.
Large integer precision
JavaScript parses JSON numbers as IEEE-754 numbers. Integers larger than Number.MAX_SAFE_INTEGER can lose precision. If exact 64-bit identifiers matter, keep them quoted as strings.
Local processing
Formatting and validation use the JSON engine bundled with this page. Your JSON input is processed in browser memory and is not submitted to an EveryTools transformation endpoint.
Common JSON validation failures
| Problem | Invalid | Valid |
|---|---|---|
| Single quotes | {'name':'Ada'} | {"name":"Ada"} |
| Trailing comma | {"a":1,} | {"a":1} |
| Unquoted key | {name:"Ada"} | {"name":"Ada"} |
